Educational Services - Non-Public School Program
CONTACT: Director, Educational Services, or Administrative Services Coordinator
The Children's Home of Stockton's Non-Public School (NPS) is a private non-profit, non-sectarian special education
school certified by the California State Department of Education. The school operates on a 230 day extended year,
including 180 days of full-time (6 hour) sessions during the regular school year and two 25 partial day (5 hour)
summer sessions. Qualification for admission to the NPS program is contingent upon the student's established need
for Special Education services, as determined through local School Districts or the County Office of Education.
The Non-Public School program provides an alternative educational
environment for qualified students requiring intensive Special
Education services in a highly structured setting. Students with
special needs may be referred to the NPS program from a variety of
sources, including local School Districts, the San Joaquin County
Office of Education, County Mental Health, Social Services, various
Probation Departments, and by the CHS Residential Services division.
Determination of Special Education qualification and authorization
of service delivery is then established by the student’s school
district of residence.
The NPS program is staffed with
Special Education credentialed teachers, the majority of whom also
possess Master’s Degrees in Special Education. Each teacher is
assisted by a Program Assistant (typically college students working
towards credentialing or associated degrees), working in a team
format to provide students with a positive school experience in a
comprehensive educational environment. Individualized Educational
Plans (IEPs) are utilized to assess, monitor and improve student’s
academic skills and socio-emotional functioning, with the goal of
their successful reintegration into a public school setting.
